Welcome to the website for the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai’s Internal Medicine Program at NYC Health+Hospitals/Queens. We are proud of our long history of commitment to medical education and scholarship while providing excellent patient care. The hospital center is a 318-bed acute care facility in Jamaica, Queens, and is part of the New York City Health and Hospital Corporation, the largest municipal healthcare system in the US. It is a modern medical center with Centers of Excellence in Women’s Health, Cancer Care, Diabetes Care, Behavioral Health and Robotic Surgery.
NYC H+ /Queens serves a culturally and economically diverse population with a wide spectrum of medical conditions. Our institution averages over 16,000 admissions per year, 90,000 Emergency Room visits and over 300,000 clinic visits. We have been recognized multiple times for our excellence in patient care; we received a 2010 AHA McKesson Quest for Quality Prize, 2013 Leapfrog Award for Patient Safety and Quality, 2024 Lantern Award and Silver Award designation for ICU.
The program is sponsored by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai. Each year, we offer 22 three-year categorical positions that lead to eligibility for Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine and 8 one-year preliminary positions for individuals who will be completing their training in advanced programs elsewhere. Here you will find a supportive and collaborative atmosphere. Our team of experienced faculty members is deeply committed to mentoring and guiding you through your residency training.
The Department of Medicine at NYC Health+Hospitals/Queens boasts 54 full-time and 14 part-time teaching attendings. Faculty members have academic appointments at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai and excel at teaching, supervising and evaluating residents in a wide variety of inpatient, critical care, outpatient, and subspecialty areas. We offer a comprehensive curriculum that integrates cutting-edge medical knowledge with hands-on clinical experience, ensuring you are well-prepared to meet the challenges of the evolving field of internal medicine.
In addition to our robust clinical training, we offer numerous opportunities for research, leadership development, and involvement in quality improvement initiatives. We believe in the importance of balancing professional and personal growth, and we strive to support your well-being throughout your residency. During the course of residency training, the graduates present posters and participate in oral presentations at regional, national and international meetings and publish countless peer-reviewed journal articles.
The program supplements the standard, traditional medical education (bedside rounds, subspecialty conferences, Morning Report, Journal Club, Morbidity and Mortality Conference, Grand Rounds, etc.) with innovative, evidence-based modalities:
- State of the Art Simulation Lab at NYC Health+Hospitals/Queens
- Teleconferences with the Department of Medicine at Mount Sinai
- Yale Ambulatory Case-based Workshops
- Residents are provided with New England Journal Knowledge+, MKSAP, UWorld, UpToDate, etc.
